What are craters, and why does the moon have so many and the Earth have so little?

To start off with, a crater is a large, bowl-shaped cavity in the ground or on the surface of a planet or the moon. These are mainly caused by an explosion or the impact of a meteorite or other celestial body.

But the real question is, Why does the moon have lots of craters and the Earth has so little?

This is because the Earth has a atmosphere that causes friction on the asteroids/meteorites, making most of them burn up before they reach th e Earths surface. We, on Earth, also have weather and other natural causes that over time erases the evidence of impact on the Earth. The moon doesn’t have a atmosphere, so every little rock can make it to the surface and the moon has no weather to erase or destroy the damage that all the millions of asteroids have caused on the moon surface.
